John Smith was born in January of 1580 and died June of 1630. As a child he tried to escape to see, but after being caught by his father, he was forced to work in an apprenticeship. Soon after, he escaped once more and began work as a mercenary. He traveled all over to many places, such as Netherlands, Austria, Turks, Transylvania, and Virginia. John Smith was also a man of many things. He was a pirate and after being captured he was sold into slavery. Many times did he nearly die because of the things he did. Many times he was almost hanged for his actions. John Smith was named captain for the voyage to Jamestown, Virginia. Without him, more men would have died, almost all of them. In John Smith, I see Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Carribean. Both John Smith and Jack Smith are pirates, and also were named Captains for voyages. John Smith was often almost killed for his actions, as was Captain Jack Sparrow. Many times, both men were the reason their crews were still alive and also both men had tales of new places unknown to the people. John Smith had tales of Virginia and Captain Jack Sparrow had the tales of the Dead Man’s chest. John Smith was captured numerous times, and on one account was sold into slavery. Captain Jack Sparrow was also captured numerous times and was not sold into slavery, but was sent to work on the ghost ship, where there he was held captured. Captain Jack Sparrow was the captain of his ship, and many crews. John Smith was appointed captain after he returned to England, and before the Jamestown voyage. Both men reflect each other in numerous ways. Although they may not be the exact same, and have the exact same stories, they reflect one another very well.
